I took this photo in Soweto (SOuth WEst TOwnship) on a visit to South Africa. This area was desperately poor, but the children loved having their picture taken. They gathered around us and chatted over, “Shoot! Shoot!”
The expression on these faces, though, is different. There is a real contrast in the expressions of the two children. The face of the child on the right is peaceful, but the one on the right shows real concern. On the other hand, in the lower left, he is calmly resting his hand on my leg. As with any good photo, I see more and more in it each time I look at it.
